Q. Do I have to get permission to use copyrighted material for Course Reserves?

Using copyrighted material one time without obtaining permission is allowed under Fair Use, but you must get permission (and pay applicable usage charges) for each subsequent use.
Letting Course Reserves staff handle all reserve requests is best, because Fair Use goes by the course that's using the material and not by professor; if there are multiple sections being taught with a copyrighted material, we have to pay for all but the first time it's used.
